As the Centre will initially implement the project in 10 cities, Pune is vying for the top position. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a tremendous initiative to prepare the draft proposal of the scheme, which has to be submitted to the Union Government by December’15.

After a lot of discussion, Mr. Dattatraya Dhankawade, Mayor instructed Mr. Kunal Kumar, Municipal Commissioner to make a presentation of the proposal prepared by PMC. Mr. Kumar gave a detailed presentation of the draft for Smart City and requested all the parties to support it. Over 40 elected members spoke on the proposal. The Municipal Commissioner said that, “Pune had taken the lead in the Smart City scheme and other cities are following it. If the General Body gives its nod, it will help Pune to get selected in the first phase. In fact, Pune stands a bright chance to be number one in the Smart City project,” he said.
