The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to work on a proper vision for the Smart City initiative. PMC and Delivering Change Foundation (DCF) have officially kick-started the three-phase programme.
In the first phase of the programme, smartphones were distributed to members of The Tanishka Foundation founded by DCF. These smartphones will help Tanishka members to digitally collect information about aspirants from the citizens of Pune.
The event was graced by Shri Pratap Pawar, Chairman, Sakal Media Group; Mr. Abhijit Pawar, Managing Director, Sakal Media Group and Chairman & Founder, Delivering Change Foundation; Mr. Dattatraya Dhankawade, Mayor; Mr. Kunal Kumar, Municipal Commissioner, Pune and Mr. Sunil Ramanand, Joint Commissioner of Police.
Addressing the gathering, Kumar said, “Today is an important day as the innovative Smart City initiative has been kicked off. This is a 'people’s project' being supported by the PMC, Sakal Media Group, Delivering Change Foundation and several other bodies.” Kumar appealed to the city residents to fill up their forms in the next 10 days, based on which the Pune Municipal Corporation will set the vision and projects to be undertaken for Pune. In addition to this, he also requested people to decide whether if they wanted to transform Pune into a Smart City or not, and what sort of Smart City do they wanted.
The editor of Sakal, Malhar Arankalle said, “To transform Pune into a Smart City, each and every citizen will have to do his bit to contribute”. He further added, “Members of the Tanishka Foundation will go from home to home collecting information about the vision and problems faced by the citizens of Pune. We appeal to people to cooperate with these women and provide appropriate answers in order to achieve the dream of transformation".
Sunil Ramanand, Joint Commissioner of Police believes that the initiative taken by the Delivering Change Foundation will surely be blessed by Lord Ganpati. A united effort by the citizens of Pune will help us transform into a Smart City.
